Keeping shiitake fruiting blocks fresh during export depends on controlling temperature, humidity and ventilation to prevent heating, oxygen shortage or early pinning.
1. Pre-cool before shipping
Cool the blocks to the target temperature before dispatch to reduce field heat and metabolic activity.
2. Constant cold transport
Use constant cold transport at about -2 to -3°C and avoid frequent temperature fluctuations.
3. Temperature logger
Place a temperature logger with the shipment so the complete temperature record can be checked on arrival.
4. Arrival inspection
Check the temperature record first, then inspect packaging, firmness, damaged bags and early pinning.
